Kathryn Trucano is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Montana. She provides mental health services primarily to adults (18-65+). She primarily utilizes Emotion-Focused Therapy in her practice, which draws upon psychodynamic, gestalt, attachment, and family system theories. Kathryn has received training in different branches of Emotion-Focused Therapy including individuals, couples, families, and trauma. She often incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma theory, mindfulness, and strengths-based principles as well.
She completed the two-year Master's program at Montana State University-Bozeman for Mental Health Counseling through the MSU College of Education, Health & Human Development. She satisfied the requirements for both mental health, and marriage and family tracts. The MSU program is CACREP accredited. Kathryn received a Master of Science degree in Health and Human Development in May 2012.
Kathryn also completed a 2-year training through The New Seminary (located in New York) on Interfaith Studies from 2004-2006 which provided education in world religions and spiritual practices. After this coursework, she was ordained as an Interfaith Minister through the Interfaith Temple in New York. In addition, she completed the training on religious abuse and trauma through the Global Center for Religious Research organization and “Understanding Cults: A Foundational Course for Clinicians” through the Freedom of Mind Resource Center. With this training, Kathryn can help those who are exploring or questioning their spirituality, or who have been negatively affected by highly controlling authoritarian groups.
She has worked as an outpatient therapist at the Bozeman Help Center, and the Intermountain Community Service Center in Helena. While in Bozeman, she provided volunteer services for Family Promise, The Help Center, Hearts and Homes, and Haven - the domestic violence shelter. She is currently in private practice.
Kathryn is passionate about helping adult individuals in the Helena area and has chosen to collaboratively work with dedicated colleagues both at Rivers and Mountains as well as in the broader Helena community.
Kathryn assists clients who are struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, life transitions, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem/self-worth, grief, trauma, and spiritual issues. All uninsured and self-pay clients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate. Kathryn provides Telehealth as needed if clinically appropriate.
